Waited in line all day, late afternoon around closing time we entered building. Processing done efficiently even then. Difficult customer ahead of me, unfased friendly service even then.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the department said the decision to extend operating hours came after long queues were experienced in some centres at the same time last year. Been there 3 times now in the space of a week. Systems always offline apparently (the 3rd day the generator gave problems.and then it changed to systems being offline). Must have spent 9 hrs at this place. The staff gets rude and sarcastic when you ask them whats going on. Won't even give it one star but had to at least give one.

This has been a problem for more than a decade. Capetonians who cannot get service in Cpt all head to the smaller regional offices with limited space for staff. The small town offices was never meant to handle so many people. In Stellenbosch there were people from the Cape Town CBD, Bloubergstrand, Belville etc.

The greeter could also assist with this. Unfortunately one cannot post a review without giving a single star. Stood waiting from 7h30. At 11h10 the system went offline. Another day wasted not even mentioning the cost.

I have lost days of work time in these efforts. Would prefer much better guidance on which queues exist and where located BEFORE picking a queue. Loss of stars due to to this paragraph. Waiting 4 hours only for them to close the door.
If you're not in the queue by 6am, you probably won't get any assistance. The lady at the front desk (the meeter/greeter) ignores everyone and tells people to stand in incorrect queues. One of the most pathetic standards of service delivery I have ever experienced. Government services cannot be this terrible.

I've already been waiting for 3 hours and it's not all that busy. Their system is primal and reminds me of the early 2000s, still with hand written tickets. From the application to the collection, it was a total of 6 working days. No-one answers their phone. It rings, and rings, and rings and then rings off. This is for an entire morning so far.
As if he did'nt understand English. These people are disguisting. They closed earlier than they should.
So what must we do as South Africans? Took my son in to apply for his passport, February 2022, I needed a card ID and passport as well. First day in, waited in line gave up early. Second day in went earlier, busy day.

I finally made it into the actual building and it was all good - well organized and modern - worked like a charm. Just after a week i could collect my SA Passport and again very kind and helpful. Our offices are for administrative purposes only, no visitors will be accepted without an appointment. For legal questions and advice alwayscontact a lawyer before the marriage is conducted. There are 7 service counters, and only two people sitting at them. Of the 6 toilets in the bathroom, only 1 of the ladies toilets works.
Select Home Affairs offices will operated on extended hours during the busy January period. Civil marriages are conducted at offices of Somerset West Small Office and by authorized marriage officers at churches in Somerset West. Many Capetownians are taking a long drive out to the home affairs department here because of the shorter lines and timely service. Went to Somerset West instead, we were helped there within minutes by excellent staff, no queue at 4pm. The home affairs did not even had my marriage certificate that I applied for on 1 January 2020. The staff are incredibly rude, abrasive and do not respond to questions about their system that clearly, does not work or serve citizens.

How this has gotten so appalingly bad, and continues to worsen, is a mystery. Perhaps out tax money could be spent on this, the systems that involve the people who pay it, rather than government staff's fancy cars and holiday trips. Such incompetence, seems like a rule of thumb when it comes to most government facilities. Rude, uninformed and lazy staff who dont appreciate their jobs. Told they are unable to amend a birth certificate due to lockdown level 3 and had to come back when it was level 2.
Utterly utterly useless. Been here since this morning at 7am. And it seems their lunch breaks lasts at least a few hours. There is 10 booths for people to help you but only one is occupied the whole day.and 2 cashier spots but only one occupied and not even all the time. 2 photo booths but only one person to help. And its super busy but they take their time to assist people.

They don't even deserve one star. You wait for over 2 hours just to collect your Passport. Bathrooms are a disgrace. You can visit the official website () to find information on requirements and documents needed for your application or renewal.
